frame rate dips

I have been getting consistent frame rate dips in my power generation area, all other sections seem to work fine but this one spot constantly lags.
I am using steam power supplied by a near by 12ish coal mining operation, I have 3 rows steam plants, each row consists two 9 long parallel seam generator lines with just enough boilers to make just enough steam to run all of them
example
P===========SSSSSSSSS
I I I I I I I I I I
bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
| | | | | |||
p===========SSSSSSSSS
p: pump
=: boilers
b: belt
|: inserter
S: generators
stack three of the above vertically one on top of the other and you have my power grid in my current game and it causes lag every time I visit it to expand/manage it. (line of laser turrets defend the whole thing at the top most row. (belts connected with spliters)

Can you provide the save, log and system specs?

This appears to be not just limited to steam effects.
Walking amongst forests also causes massive load on the GPU.

Same for me,
Sometimes, I have huge drop of framerate that makes me reload the game. I don't think it cames from the system specs because I play on the same config as always.

As Smarty already said above, please provide your system specs and log file (even if you think that's not the issue), and if it is limited to one save post that save aswell.
Another thing that could help is a screenshot of Factorio with the F5 debug view enabled.

You can turn off smoke in the graphics settings, this will not help with forest lag but will improve framerate around steam engines and stone/steel furnaces.

As for forest lag, go to Options → Graphics and set Video memory usage to to Medium (or even Low). Does that help with the lag?

Damn, I didn't manage to reproduce this today : I played and the game was smooth and perfect (with the same setup as when it lagged) ! But it happens at least two times the last times I played !
I play with a E2180 and a HD 3650 with 2 gb ram
Here the logs however and the save that started laggy :

Tried to reproduce the problem for a couple of hours but had no luck
I think it depends on the cpu/gpu you have

I recommend in such cases cleaning of the fans.
