Trailer's smooth zoom in game?

I finally "beat" the game tonight (shot off that rocket) and was just pondering how much I enjoy Factorio and am looking forward to whatever patch ends up adding more end-game content when I realized something.

In the trailer for the game, you use a smooth zooming camera to zoom in and out of the game field. However, in the game, this zoom is an instant switch from level to level. I'm wondering, why isn't the zoom graphical interpolation from the trailer in the actual game itself?

I think it was a post-production pan/zoom effect rather than an in-game zoom change

Klonan is right. With 0.12 they introduced a zoom, that works only, if you change the default zoom (mouse wheel) to keys.

But in general you're right: this could be improved a lot. My dream is, that zooming out will blend over into the map and vice versa.

I see, you're right. Binding to keys makes it smooth! I hope they make that functionality work with the mouse wheel at some point.

Yes. Games that blend smoothly into map view are (almost) always really fun to play. I just hope that there is still a map key so that I dont have to kill my scrollwheel.
