I have looked around for some time now, but have not found it. A simple engine (burner) that produces some electricity. Like a small diesel generator or gas turbine that is actually used as backup power in the real world.

This would be used as power (or backup power) in outposts where there is no water nearby. It should probably be less efficient than boiler/steam combo as it should not take over the function of primary source of energy.

Perhaps the normal "engine" could be used for this. Just make it deployable and have it accept fuel and make electricity?

You beat me to it. Which is good, my to-do list is getting too long already XD

but I peeked into it and it seems like it'll be doable, and fairly easily.

:edit: on reflection, realzied I was forgetting something. Still doable, I'm sure, but not quite as easily as I initially thought.

Not quite as easily, but something i've already dealt with before. Pretty much just copy pasting from my Torches mod :]
