[0.12.0] Game crash upon equiping ammo and handgun

I place the handgun and ammo into the 2 slots in the bottom right and upon placing the last item whenever it be the ammo or the handgun, game freezes and crashes. I can not progress past the equip handgun on the tutorial mission 2 due to this.
Windows 8.1 64bit, Factorio 0.12.0 64bit.

Rolling back to 0.11.22, I am able to equip the handgun and ammo and progress through the tutorial missions.
