Make Terrain Generation More Interesting

I know that there are several layers to terrain generation already, but once enough of the map is discovered the samey-ness becomes obvious and repetitive and boring and ultimately disappointing

Resources and bodies of water should not all be so evenly spaced: everything would look far better if we had vast seas and vast forests and vast deserts and vast mixed areas interspersed throughout the world, if their shapes did not all look so samey when zoomed out on the map, and, crucially, if resources would be scarce for the most part but then there would be tight groupings of rich patches of several different things here and there

It feels like we are so close with the terrain generation rework, and all that is needed is some tweaks on the backend... with the possible addition of one or two more things happening to map generation, like rivers and mountain ranges (ie stacks of cliffs)

Every single thing you mentioned can be tweaked in the options when starting a new game, except rivers...

Not really. You can increase the size and frequency of water/trees, but not the pattern. You can't choose clusters of resources. You can't choose clusters of cliffs.

I felt the same actually and especially after I returned to playing 1.1 again where the maps feel more like total wildness.
