I exported item data from the game with a script and got a line for an item called lane-splitter.

This is not the normal splitter that we have in the game today, since those are called:
"splitter"
"fast-splitter"
"express-splitter"
"turbo-splitter"

Searching this forum and google gave me no results for "lane-splitter" (google just gets it confused with normal splitters or combination builds , balancers etc)

Does anyone know what the lane-splitter is?

The lane splitter is a 1x1 entity which acts as a splitter, but between the individual lanes of a transport belt rather than between two belts. Engine support for it was added in 2.0 but, similar to loaders, they do not exist in the base game, more as functionality to be used by modders.

They do exist in base game, but are hidden and available from the editor (/editor in chat)
