Allow inserters to return unwanted items to chests

When you have a chest and an inserter transferring items from the chest to an Assembly Machine, and then clear the recipe on the Assembly Machine or pick a different recipe, there is a chance that the inserter becomes stuck - if it was trying to deposit an item that the Assembly Machine no longer wants.
Fixing this requires manually clearing the item held by the inserter.
Suggestion: What I'd like is for the inserter to return the items back to the chest (if possible/enough space), this would drastically reduce the number of times the inserter gets stuck. Obviously it wouldn't be able to return items to belts or other machines' outputs.
