What selector/menu is this for?
In-game chat / Rich-text icon picker button.
What is the core suggestion?
Please add all types of Technology and Research icons (such as Automation, Logistics, Chemical, Space, etc.) to the chat rich-text icon selector menu. Currently, they are missing from the selection grid, and can only be typed out manually via syntax like [technology=technology-name].
Why is it needed? (Use Cases & Benefits)
1. Bridging the Language Barrier in Multiplayer: Factorio is played globally, and translation differences can be highly specific. Some international players might not know the exact English names of specific technologies (or vice versa). Adding research icons drastically improves immediate comprehension and communication speed across different language settings without words.
2. Reading the Original (English) Names via Chat: Many players use the chat icon picker as a quick dictionary tool. For instance, a player can select an item icon, copy the rich-text tag, and paste it to see or copy its original English internal string without needing to switch their entire game language. However, because technology icons are missing from the picker, players cannot do this for research-related discussions.
Conclusion:
Adding these technology icons would perfectly resolve translation ambiguities and make coordinating research and production goals in multiplayer much faster and more user-friendly.
