Missing inserter far/near side setting

Did I miss anything? Why can't I make inserters drop items on the near or far side of the belt? It has broken all my production and destroyed my ships. It was the best feature you had upgraded previously.

That was never a vanilla feature. You probably had a mod for that (Krastorio 2 has / had something like that), updated to 2.1.7 which disabled the mod (because not compatible yet) and then lost the feature.

However for perpendicular belts, it's now a vanilla feature in 2.1, check
FFF #442. (And this being added probably broke the hack used by mods for lane switching.)

You'll either have to play a stable version (currently 2.0.77 or earlier) or you'll have to live with that mod disabled. It sounds like you'll probably want to play this game with a stable version so that your mods will all work.
