Wriggler Pentapod 'Walk' Animation Doesn't Look Right

TL;DR
The movement animations for wriggler pentapod just don't look right; rather than looking like they are walking (or rather wriggling) along the surface, they look like they are being slid across the surface while simultaneously making completely unrelated wiggling motions.

What?
Important Preface: I am not an animator or artist of any kind. The only thing I can definitively say is 'it looks wrong'; why it looks wrong and how to fix that is my entirely armature guesswork.

The wriggler's movement animations are not properly synced with their movement over the terrain. Their animation cycle has them moving various tentacles forward and back, apparently pushing themselves forward, but their actual overland move speed is so high that the tentacles which are moving backwards relative to the wriggle are actually sliding forwards relative to the ground beneath. The result is that it doesn't look like they're actually propelling themselves; instead it looks like they're being dragged around by an invisible force while making vague and unrelated swimming motions.

There's also something off about how they turn, but I can't even put a name to what it is that bothers me there.

Presumably the fix would be to adjust their move speed and/or animation speed so that they are better synchronized.

(Incidentally, while running the game at 1/4 speed researching this issue, I noticed that biters actually have the same disconnect, just in the opposite direction; when a biter is walking forwards, their feet actually slide backwards on the ground. Unlike the wrigglers, this isn't a problem, though; I've played the game for years and literally never noticed it until now. Not sure why the biters look fine; might be that biter legs move much faster so its less visible when at normal speed, or that wrigglers spend a lot of time wandering around slowly while biters are usually either standing still or charging at full speed.)
Why?
Factorio has absolutely stunning visuals and gorgeous, detailed animations, and the 2.1 patch is improving them even more. The wrigglers and their bad move animation are the one wart I've noticed.
