[2.1.7] Rail planner makes impossible paths

What I did:
I tried to use the rail planner to connect one set of rail to another within a close distance.
What happened:
The rail planner gave me a path, but the path it gave intersects over itself in a way which is impossible to place, especially over parts of raised rails (ramps/supports/elevated rail segments). When attempting to place it anyway segments of the path are missing even though there are no obstacles in the way.
What I expected:
I expected that the planner would either fail if a path was impossible and show the failed path icon, or find a longer path that was actually possible.
Consistency:
It seems to happen every time that I hover over the final connection point, and happens in both sandbox mode and the standard mode as well.
Reproduction steps:
Connect from the top left rail to the bottom rail as shown in my image/save, and then try to place the ghost.
My uneducated guess:
I don't know how the code of the game works or what was changed in 2.1, but this might have something to do with the cargo bay placement restrictions? Like allowing elevated rails to go over those "tall" buildings allowed them to try to go over "tall" elevated rails as well incorrectly?
Shown impossible path. Gaps where it was not actually placeable. Save file and log attached.
