I’m considering installing Linux on my PC.

I’ve used Linux for gaming in the past with mixed results. Not all games worked properly with the default Steam installation, and I’ve also tried Wine.

I know Factorio runs on Linux, but I’d like to understand how well it supports older versions and mods. For example, on Windows I downloaded version 1.1 from the “older versions” page and then installed IR3 directly through the in-game mod portal. Will this work the same way on Linux, or is any additional manual setup required beyond downloading the version from the website and installing mods through the in-game mod portal?

I have both 1.1 and 2.0 versions on my linux. First one I use to play nullius mod, which has no 2.0 version. Just for sure, launched it and checked, that I can install any other 1.1 mod through in-game mod portal. No additional steps are required.
Just in case, factorio has native linux version. Use it instead of running windows version via wine/proton.

Factorio works flawless on linux, no wine shenanigans needed. Installing mods etc works the same as on Windows.

I have 2.0 and Space Age installed with steam and 1.1 from the website. Installation from the website zip file is like unpacking to the Folder of your choice and you are good to go.
