I think Ships would look better if they had more empty space, paths rooms in them.

What do you want to suggest

Introduce breakage and maintenance through some sort of repair robots that would require you to leave empty spaces that they can move through ship to repair it when something breaks.

I think they'll be looking more interesting if they could have some empty spaces, distinct rooms; instead of being full solid block of stuff that blurs together.

They’re space “platforms” and not space “ships”. They’re not really meant to be anything like traditional scifi spaceships, but rather factories with thrusters. They don’t even have a traditional hull, unless you place some stone walls and pretend they are one.
