Wire buttons hard to access on Nintendo Switch

Hello, unfortunately, I couldn't find what I was looking for.

I'm playing Factorio on the Nintendo Switch. After a long break, I've started playing again. I've now gone through a few updates.

Current status: 2.0.55(build 83138, arm64ns)

The blueprints for red and green wires have been removed, and their functions have been changed. Unfortunately, they apparently forgot to program a key combination on the Switch for connecting masts and modules. This option isn't available in the custom creation settings either.

I'm so frustrated that I'm actually losing interest in the game again.

You can find the wire tools in the Quick panel, under the tools tab.

You can bind controls to the wire shortcuts, they're in the "Tools" section of the controls.

I realise I'm replying to staff but respectfully, at time of writing (Jul-26), there are no default bindings for wires on the Switch 2 console for v2.0.

I tried;
  • Starting new game
  • Resetting all settings
Result;
No wire bindings available in the quick items menu, Tools tab (all pages checked)

The settings are available via custom bindings but they default to "Not set", both initially and after pressing Y to reset. You have to enable this functionality manually :( (though +1 that it's possible at least). I have not yet found a way to map these to a quick items slot as wires in v2.0 are not inventory items and can't be set with that mechanism.

Edit
After some experimenting, what I got working;
- Go to the main menu -> Settings -> Controls
- Tap L stick Down twice, Then L stick Up once, and hit A to search for settings
- Search for "wire" and hit "+". This should filter to 3 settings for Copper, Green, and Red wires
- Assign them to any key bindings (prefer unused/rarely used keys, e.g. L or R stick depress) - this will be temporary
- Apply bindings by hitting X, then exit back to the game UI (not the menu, the actual game)
- Trigger one of your assigned key bindings for wires. This will make that wire selectable via the cursor that you can move with the R stick
- Hold L button (not stick) to bring up the quick menu
- Navigate to an empty quick item slot and click A to assign it. This will persist accessing that wire mode in that quick item slot.
- Do this for each wire type
- Go back into the Controls menu as above, navigate to the wire bindings and hit Y to reset the keybindings to return them to normal (hit X to save the reset)
- You should now still have access to the wire mode in your assigned Quick Items menu
