I was looking at Tree Farm, but I simply want to defoliate without wasting the wood- is there somewhere a doohickey similar to a mining drill to harvest already placed trees?

You can use construction robots and a deconstruction blueprint to remove trees without losing their wood.

Are you sure?
In my last game I use wood in all my trains, cars, tanks...
I have enough stocks of wood for two more games.
Although my entire base is powered by solar panels and accumulators.
Boilers and fuel forges consume wood faster.

Although I very disappointing to lose the wood when forests are cut down.

I had so much coal for everything, I didn't even mind using poison capsules to remove forests out of the way...

btw - what's a fuel forge ?

I mean fuel consuming furnaces (stone/steel).

I'll have to look into this one; I want the wood, don't want the trees.

While we're on this, Why Do I need iron sticks for rail, but NOT wood for ties? Or do you not use wood in Europe?

Railroad ties were traditionally made of wood, but pre-stressed concrete is now widely used, especially in Europe and Asia. [1]

Resource availability. In green areas wood is plenty. Have fun building wood ties in a desert.

Stone and Iron, on the other hand, are available anywhere (unless you messes up the world creation or 'RNG hates you' situation).

Construction bots cut down trees & take the wood to storage chests or requesters short on supply. Been this way a long time. Using weapons kills the trees & destroy it's wood.

Smartass. In the US concrete ties are the rarity. But I have seen that Europe uses them almost always now. Hence my question about it-

@ ThePear: I actually did NOT know CB's would do that- and I learned that they'll pick up everything in the Dec field...holy crap wat a fiasco my first try was, lol

concrete is a lot more durable and stronger than wood
