This might be more on the OS side, but I'll post it for posterity and because I've switched desktop monitor setups and never had an issue while in game, just on the loading screen.

What did you do?: After starting Factorio through steam, with the loading screen still early in the process bar - In windows extended displays from 2560x1440 (sole primary screen) to include a secondary 2560x1080 screen. I'm unsure if the mismatch of screen and aspect ratios is part of the edge case which is why i've included them.

What happened?: Factorio Crashed with the following error:
Factorio crashed due to video card reset or removal.
The video card has been physically removed from the system, or a driver update for the video card has occurred.
Error:DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED. Reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_RESET

If you see this error often, try rebotting the PC or updating your graphics drivers.
The PC might also be unstable due to overclocking or overheating.
As a possible workaround, you can try switching Factorio to the OpenGL renderer.
Expectation: desktop resolution is adjusted and during the game process either pauses or continues in the background without making a graphics call during the screen flickering that could cause the crash, making it to the main menu without issue.

Repeatability: I was able to repeat the crash only once more out of multiple attempts going between 1 and 2 screens. So seems it may be only susceptible during a certain phase of the load in.

Relevant Hardware:
Windows 10 v22H2/19045.5737
GPU 3060Ti driver v576.28

e; I didn't grab the crash report right away, since I wanted to see if it was repeatable first, i'll try to cycle through a few more times to see if I can catch it a third time.

That is a hardware issue, see 65323.
