[Strangepan] [2.0.46] Magenta game window when using Metal

M1 Mac mini
MacOS 15.4.1

After updating to 2.0.46, the main game area (underneath any UI windows) is a solid magenta both in the main menu and in game.

Tried:
- Disabling all mods except for space age, no change
- Disabling all mods, issue does not appear
- Changing back to OpenGL graphics works around the issue with space age active

Interestingly, some stars are visible on what I assume is a main menu simulation taking place in space.

Edit: After posting I added two more log files. One of them is with no mods active, one is with only space age.

Edited the OP to add two more log files. Both of them are on my usual graphics settings, one of them is with no mods active (working), one is with only space age/quality/elevated rails (magenta).

Additional troubleshooting:

- Same settings as the above “not working with metal graphics” image, but with either one or both of these two setting changes:
- Sprite resolution set to medium instead of high
- or texture compression set to low quality instead of high quality
causes the issue to not appear with the space age mod loaded.

Hello, thank you for your report and all of the helpful screenshots and logs. I'm having difficulty reproducing the problem with these graphics settings, but I have a hypothesis for what's going on. I notice that your system has only 8GB of memory, which could be part the problem because 2.0.46 2.0.45 also changed the graphics settings presets for Apple Silicon systems.

While I work to reproduce the issue, could I ask you to check if you can see the bug with all your usual graphics settings set to max (high-quality texture compression, video memory usage = all, largest possible atlas texture size, etc.), Graphics backend set to OpenGL, and with Space Age mods enabled?

Certainly! With those settings (now on 2.0.47), the bug doesn’t appear.

Thank you. We actually ordered an 8gb M1 Mac mini so we can try to fix this. Out of curiosity, do you remember what graphics settings you used prior to 2.0.46? Did you keep them at default, or did you manually max them out?

I pulled some past `config.ini`s from my computer backup to check.

Prior to 2.0.45, it looks like I had mostly the same settings except "native resolution" was turned off as I couldn't get good performance on my 4k monitor.

Before 2.0.46, I'd switched the graphics backend to metal and turned on native resolution as with the new update I was getting excellent performance.

I've attached them here, datestamped, just in case they could be helpful.

2.0.48 will include a fix for the magenta screens when using the Metal backend and will reduce the default graphics settings for Macs with 8GB or less of unified memory.

If this issue is observed again after 2.0.48, feel free to either update this thread or open a new one.

With 2.0.48, switching to Metal backend, while making no other changes, works for me now without issue, thank you!

Awesome, thanks for letting me know! If something does crop up, feel free to create another bug report/technical support post or update this thread.
