figuring out suitable amount of turbines for 32x reactor core?

Hello. my friend showed me this but never got around to building it. Now I'm curious how many steam turbines it could support.
(Intended to use "trash unrequested" to export spent fuel")

Welcome to the forum.
8 reactors with 2 neightbours, 24 reactors with 3 neighbours - total output is 40*(8*3+24*4)=4800 MW.
One heat exchanger is 10 MW, one steam turbine is 5.82 MW. So 480 exchangers and 825 turbines.

By the way, this setup might look compact and efficient, but it's not as efficient as a straight 2x16 line of reactors. Such a line with 32 reactors would output 4960 MW. And the look of the given setup will not be as clean as it is in your screenshot, since you need to add supply to the 3 reactors at each corner.

I thought the reactor bonus would compensate for this. Am not a fan of infinitely wide designs. Also am aware of needing to feed some of the border reactors, which i don't mind.

Thanks. it doesn't sound that bad i think

A 2xN reactor always has three neighbours for every reactor except for the four on the "corners" which only have two. It's not possible for a different shape to equal this while still leaving every reactor accessible for automated fueling:
- you can't ever have a reactor with four neighbours that's accessible.
- you can't make a grid-based shape with fewer than four "corners" so you will always have at least four reactors with only two neighbours.
- any shape wider than a 2xN must have at least one hole in it somewhere otherwise there would be at least one inaccessible reactor, and every hole creates at least one more reactor with fewer than three neighbours.
You can get fairly close for large numbers of reactors, but it is unfortunately always going to be at least a little bit worse than a 2xN of the same number of reactors; only the least interesting design can have maximum efficiency.

What about cheesing it with a staggered design?

The reactor bonus is only applied if the reactors are fully aligned with other.

For a staggered design you need fusion reactors, see
FFF-420.

that's kinda disappointing but thanks.
From what i gathered previously, it looked like it only needed to be 1 direct connection and the rest could be done by heatpipes.

That's true for fusion reactors. The classic nuclear reactor has to be fully aligned to its neighbor for both benefit from the neighbor bonus.

could probably be modded in unless something like that already exists
