Switch 2 is using a more powerful APU and it requires 42 watts and comes with a 60 watt charger for the dock.

Would Space Age benefit from a more powerful portable APU ?

And as for other consoles (for example PlayStation 5) will Factorio ever show up on those ?

Will it have more RAM and VRAM? I think that's a big one.

Devs have stated that they will not be bringing the game to any other platforms. In fact, it was only the work of one dev, after hours, that got the game ported to the Switch. The only reason he did so was the portability aspect of the device. The devs have said that they do not see any reason to bring the game to a stationary console when the game is already on a stationary platform (the PC).

As for the Switch 2, they have not, as far as I’m aware, ruled out bringing Space Age to it. However, they have not said that they would do so, either. Time will tell.

Nice to see factorio 2.0.28 on switch got the update today.

Just found out from a source at Nintendo

The Switch 2 joycons will support "mouse mode" where it has a sensor in the middle of both joycons that can turn either one or both into a mouse with the triggers being the left and right click for the mouse mode.

I would seriously like this on Switch 2.

If the rumors are correct, this system should be a good upgrade all-round, including much better RAM and memory bandwidth, which is the main bottleneck for Factorio on Switch. The game would run quite a lot better actually.

I would buy Factorio: Space Age again in an instant if it came to Switch 2.

I hope that Switch 2 will either be patched for a new Factorio version or work with the current version as is though I expect more updates before June anyway for Factorio.

Switch 2 will be backward compatible with Switch 1, so odds are very high that, at the very least, Factorio will run just the same as is on Switch 2.

If we are lucky, it will get some kind of performance boost automatically through how Nintendo manages backward compatibility. If we are more lucky, Wube will do a version specifically updated for Switch 2. If we are even more lucky, Wube will bring Space Age to it as well.

I could see Nintendo promoting Factorio as a game in a Nintendo Direct again, perhaps especially if they want more games to highlight the new mouse functionality of Switch 2’s Joy-Con.

I will be looking into bringing both base-game and Space Age to Nintendo Switch 2. For base game I will try to make sure it takes advantage of the better hardware in backward compatibility mode, if possible.

That’s awesome to hear! Crossing my fingers all potential updates go smoothly and the process has no needless hassles. Regardless, your work is very appreciated.

I know Nintendo did open orders for Switch 1 dev kits around a month before Switch 1’s release, though I don’t know when exactly they started sending those out. Hopefully it’s not a long wait for Switch 2 kits in any case.

We have just received access to the Nintendo Switch 2 development environment and I'm starting work on it.
I just started so no promises. There's plenty of work to be done(it's still releasing on a new platform) so don't expect anything soon. Keep an eye out for our official news as we will announce it once we figure things out.
