Spidertrons not autoloading higher quality rockets

I noticed a problem, and I cannot see why it's not a bug. If you remotely drive a Spidertron with both standard and higher-quality explosive rockets (I have tested uncommon and rare so far), the Spidertron will use up all of the normal-quality ones and then stop firing. The only way I have been able to get it to fire higher-quality rockets is to pre-load them into the rocket launcher slots. Operating remotely can be clunky, and quality rockets are much less useful. Please tell me this is not expected behavior!
I have not tested it, but I suspect this may also affect tanks with higher-quality cannon shells.
EDIT: It gets worse. If you manually load one of the rocket launcher slots with high-quality rockets, the Spidertron will not load normal rockets in that slot automatically.
