What did you do?

- Place an assembling machine 2
- Place module slot request over the remote viewer
- Upgrade assembler 2 to 3 by placing assembler 3 over it

What happened?

- module slot requests disappeared (they disappear at least then, when no robots are assigned yet - not tested if robots already on the way)

I found this issue when using blueprints from early game in late game.

What did you expect to happen instead? It might be obvious to you, but do it anyway!

- no removal of module slot requests, since already inserted modules are also kept

Does it happen always, once, or sometimes?

Always

Edit: upgrading using upgrade planner or robots keeps module requests, this happens only on manual overbuilding by hand.

What do you mean by "Upgrade assembler 2 to 3"? Did you use the upgrade planner? Did you build a blueprint over it? Did you do it through remote view?

Standing near to it and manually placing assembler 3 over it. It works as expected if placing assembler 3 ghost and robots upgrade it.
