Downgrading map to older version

Hey there

Is it possible to downgrade a safe file from version 2.0.13 back down to version 1.1.110? It is not because of any technical issue that I have but it seems that Factorio 2.0+ is not compatible with the way I play the game. And I understand the amount of changes that were done were indeed needed but older maps are just not truly compatible.

Just for some context, the main map that I was playing was not a typical mega factory play through, it is a big factory with multiple, some fully independent, satellite bases around it. Currently it was one big factory, with a mega oil refinery satellite and a fully independent smaller satellite, with 3 more satellites that I was planning. The reason for this was to try multiple different types of factories on the same map and see which concept would be the best. I came up with a concept that was in between a boring city block and a spaghetti factory called 'Decentralised Centralisation'.

But the main reason that this play style is not compatible with Factorio 2.0+ is that you cannot create fully independent satellites because of the 1 cargo landing pad limitation.
Another thing is that the changes to placing rails makes everything before Factorio 2.0+ incompatible in my opinion. I tried placing rails besides rails I placed in the older version and it is an absolute pain, I rather have the curved rails back and be fully manual than to use what is there currently. There should have been a checkbox somewhere that you could at least use the old rail placing system instead of the new one. And circles, sidings and crossings made before Factorio 2.0+ cannot be recreated again.

So is it technically possible to downgrade a map? I don't care how much rebuilding I need to do.

Thank you

That sounds like a lot of headache, both for you and for developers — wouldn't it be easier to just continue in 1.1, with a 1.1 save ?

Well, after a lot of research and trying stuff, I have decided to do three things:
- Play Factorio Space Age with a new map and discover all the new content through it
- Continue to update my favourite map 'RailWorld_6' so I can just look at it from time to time for inspiration
- Start a new save file called 'RailWorld_8' in Factorio version 1.1.110 with the almost the same settings as the map that I wanted to downgrade, except for harder Uranium to get and more difficult biter settings. So I can almost relive the experience of exploring 'RailWorld_6' again while also doing things differently.

I feel you there, my problem is even bigger:

I also had fully independent satelite factories that created and used up all the research that they needed. With 2.0 that was of course not suitable anymore, as they would all have needed a separate landing pad, what is currently impossible, so I simply set up a giga train to collect all the research packs from the satelites and bring them to a central research hub.
Oh and I played without enemies, because I don't want to handle the attacks..
Then I upgraded to space age and all of a sudden I need biter nests... I played as far as I could. On Gleba there were enemy bases and on vulcanus there were worms, so far so good I thought, I just have to explore a bit, the map settings should have been adjusted as i loaded the old savefile with the DLC.
But unfortunately no matter how far I explored, no enemy bases were generated, so I am currently stuck in my progress, as I do not want to edit the map because it would halt my achievement progress...

For the ones further interested in this problem, here is the post I made in search of help for this problem:
