Performance questions for the devs or anyone that knows

Playing Space Age on a laptop meeting minimum requirements I get 30 ups and sometimes what feel like running through water/rubber banding on offline single player...even though when I check the stats the GPU is almost at 0 percentage used and the CPU is like at 30 to maybe 50%...

Linux or Windows or MacOS? Which specifically?
NVidia or AMD or Intel? Which specifically?
At which planet is the biggest base?
How profusely logistics drones are involved?

It's windows...11 I think. No big base. Base on all planets but it's like 10 machines max. 56 SPM avg. Minimal logistics drones, I love belts trains and spaghetti.

That going through water feeling happens sometimes when I ride the train. Could 1.1.111 BPs cause that to my game?

Oh and the grfx is Intel, onboard. Laptop 4 cores with 4 GB vram

Biggest base is 2x malls on Nauvis... Which used to run at 60ups in 1.1 and didn't notice fps drops in 2.0 only after the mall

You'd need to post the log file as well. However, minimum requirements are intended as "the game runs, past that... it might not be great" which seems to meet your experiences.

Thanks for getting back to me. The issue that's weird to me is how the game only runs 30 ups when CPU usage is only like 30%...it can run faster why not? The GPU usage is also low.. maybe memory or ram is the bottleneck...hm

Will try to get you a save and a log when I get a chance later this week...

Check for any background applications that might be consuming resources. Use Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (Mac) to identify and close unnecessary applications.

What is your RAM usage? 4GB is the minimum requirement for Factorio. Close all unnecessary programs in the background, including browsers etc.

If your laptop RAM can be upgraded do it. 8GB costs less than $20 these days.

Without a log file I can only guess and that doesn't really help.

when CPU usage is only like 30%
That's mostly irrelevant, what is the maximum per-core usage ?

Hi. So here is a log file:
logfile
Here is the save, if it might help:
savefile
Apologies, for running 2.0.7 still, because of...uh..financial reasons.

***The log file will also apply to the issue below as well, I loaded the saves in that log so you can see whats what.

I've encountered another issue. I started a new game planning to build more UPS friendly in mind...not far into the game the ups just starts dropping to like 10. I think biters might cause this? Didnt happen in prev playthrough, think this one is more islandey so the pathfinding struggle maybe?

Autosave2 still run 60 UPS on my system, then 45min later, see save LBMM203, UPS goes to 10...

LBMM203
***See post above for logfile.
I hope I can help you improve the game by providing this feedback. Sincere apologies if these issues are resolved in never versions.

TL;DR The game runs 60UPS with big factories, even though system requirements are minimum. At a certain point UPS goes down while CPU, GPU and RAM usage is minimal...

Updating to 2.0.14 fixed these issues, now the game runs great! Maybe that blueprint visuals movement was an issue. Runs smooth as butter. Would still suggest you look into that drop to 10fps one. It was really weird.

...issues was fixed for a while but now the same issue came up again. Could someone with more knowledge than me look at all these below and tell me what I could perhaps do to increase my ups. I have a lot more details this time, maybe it helps?

Much appreciated and thank you in advance.

Wow, killing a few demolishers made my UPS go from 16 to 40.

Can someone help me please, I don't see a notable difference between these settings. Setting Sprite atlas to 8gb vs 2gb, and should I have the texture streaming off rather? What's the best settings for a laptop, 8gb ram, no GPU, only onboard...

A handful of comments:

- Part of this is just making a large base on a low-power laptop CPU. Eventually you get to the point where the CPU can't simulate it 60 times per second.
- Many parts of Factorio are single-threaded*, so with a 4-core CPU even if the game is only using 25% CPU, that may be all of one core.
- When 120275 is fixed, that will help you somewhat.
- If it isn't already, plugging in your laptop may help.

* This is a slight simplification
