Items on space platform belts are lost when the belt is mined

If I don't want to lose resources, I find myself carefully rotating and clearing out the belts before mining them. The same goes for items in assembers when the assembler is mined _or_ the recipe is changed

Thanks for the report however that is currently intended.

What would be then the correct approach to not lose the Items play snake with the belts and put them back into the command center? this really seems pushing the player to a unfun activity

The reasoning I was given is: those items are theoretically collected and built from asteroid chunks and will simply be re-built as more chunks show up. Filling the hub with them would add annoyance.

Thanks for the clarification, that being said, it just feel bad loosing some asteroids just for refactoring, but I understand the point.
A follow-up question is If i understood well that mean only items derived from asteroids will be removed?
Is the game capable of identifying when iron ore is from an asteroid or imported from a planet?
Thanks

Can you please help me to understand why some items are removed from belts and others don't. I just understand why asteroids are removed when belt is removed, but I just lost hundreds of quantum chips because of this weird mechanic of some items being deleted and others don't.
For example, bullets are not removed from belts. at least this should be clearly explained on the tutorial or some tooltip

I tested a sample of items, and it seems only intermediates except seeds are deleted. All other items are moved to the hub instead.

This would make sense if only asteroid derived items were destroyed, but so is anything else that could be on the belt. Holmium, lithium, etc. It gets especially painful if working on a ship design and quality items get destroyed every time something gets moved over by one tile. This is the only place in the whole game where a single cut and paste can potentially take literal days to undo / replace the lost items. Since the mechanic works differently than everywhere else, the player's assumption would be that everything mined goes to the hub, but they likely won't learn the real behavior until after the game has eaten something valuable. It's a far worse experience than occasionally filling the hub with belt contents that can very easily be jettisoned to the surface or into space. Let the player decide what gets destroyed without forcing them to rework belts in such a way that everything somehow gets emptied before the belt can be relocated. It makes refactoring any advanced ship design a destructive chore and just not fun.
Place an inserter pulling from the hub before setting the filter and it throws a bunch of legendary quantum processors onto the belt? No biggie I'll just pick those up. *poof* all gone. It makes no sense at all given those don't come from asteroid chunks and instead come from resources of three planets.
The behavior is also inconsistent. Picking up assemblers before inserters results in a few hand contents being left on the ship surface. Contents of the hand of the mined inserter? Gone. Items left on the surface and mined? Goes to the hub (yes even asteroids).

That's rought, buddy. That obviously shouldn't be the case and need fixing.
On the other hand, when I rebuild platform, I have to clean hub from asteroids and other trash (maybe, those were in inserters), and I find it annoying.
So when I understood stuff disappear, I was like "well, that looks right". But I never have expensive materials on belts o a platform yet, only 'free' stuff from asteroids (including bullets, rockets...). I guess that will become a problem when I will start produce promethium science.
So, I'd like 'free' stuff to disapear and don't trash my hub, but obviously not quantum chips.

I think it would make the most sense / simplest implementation for only asteroids themselves to be destroyed, as those are the things that would quickly fill the hub space. Most other things the player mine from the platform would be stackable and would not cause the issue the devs appear to want to avoid.
