Yesterday, when I first played Space Age, the game hang for a few minutes (spinning ball), and I had to force quit Factorio.

Sadly, I was not able to reproduce the issue. Not on 2.0.8, not on the newer 2.0.9.
I was able to create a screenshot and collected a spindump report on my Mac.

I'll report it here in case someone else encounters it, or if you can spot the deadlock in the .

What I did:
- start a game from scratch, and build mostly burning miner drills and stone furnances
- build a lab
- realised the lab needed power
- build boiler
- connect power to lab

At that moment, the game hang, meaning that the screen froze, and any further interactions with the game stopped working. Even command-Q (quit) did not work.

Notable events:
- This was the very first building that I connected to electricity since I played Space Age, so I got the achievement "Steam power"
- This was the first lab that I build
- I think the lab did not yet have any science packs in the inventory.

Note: the spindump file is truncated for privacy reasons. It only lists the threads in the factorio and MTLCompilerService process. I'm happy to provide the full spindump file, but prefer not to post it publicly.

The string of the world settings is near default, only biter evolution is less time-sensitive:

Thanks for the report and thank you for providing the dump.

I can see the main thread is in gameoverlayrenderer.dylib, which is Steam overlay. There was bug in Steam client, which caused the overlay hang or crash after Factorio restarted itself (e.g. due to disabling/enabling mods) on Linux and macOS. I think when the achievement got unlocked, Steam tried to show popup and and hanged.

It is fixed in the latest Steam client update. Ref: 111743
