If you pause the game while you have the character pannel displayed, the pannel is closed automatically. After resuming, you need to press the "e" button twice to make the pannel appear again.

I think this is related to an issue I discovered while playing last night. The issue still appears in 2.0.9.

The issue seems to be caused by pausing the game while the player's inventory or other entity screen is open, such as for an Assembling machine or Inserter. Pausing the game closes the window, but upon unpausing, the game still seems to think the window is open, and refuses to display it until something is done that would cause that window to close, such as again pressing 'E' like OP mentioned, or opening another entity's window.

Here are steps I used to reproduce my issue:

1. Click on an entity such as an Assembling machine, Inserter, Train, or Train stop.
2. Pause the game by pressing the PAUSE key on the keyboard. This closes the entity's window.
3. Unpause the game by pressing the PAUSE key on the keyboard.
4. Click the same entity that was clicked in step 1. The window for that entity will not open unless another entity is opened first.

I thought the closing of the window (I didn't notice the double pressing aspect) was intentional, if highly annoying to me - thanks for fixing it
