Why Are My Thrusters Switching?

I am either not understanding something or this is a bug--
Trying to get to my first planet, I connect blue to blue and red to red but they keep getting mixed up in the middle of the flight and then the pipes that produce it get filled with the wrong color. I'm a very confused individual

You also should be able to attach it directly to a a post with the attachments menu

Thanks! Maybe during construction you mixed up some pipelines and there were still some remnants in the system, flushing the pipes by selecting them and clicking the red thrash button resolved the switching issue
