Currently, I am experiencing an issue with the Steam client on my MacBook Pro M2 macOS Sequoia 15.1 beta 2. Previously, I was able to play the game without any problems but not now.
I have searched various forums for potential solutions, but none have provided a fix. However, I did manage to resolve the issue by downloading the game directly from the official website, which restored functionality.
Based on this observation, I believe the problem may be related to the Steam API. I have attempted to search for solutions specifically to macOS, but could only find Linux related fixes and so I have not found any comprehensive explanations or tutorials.
If anyone has any experience or knowledge of how to address this issue specifically on a Mac, I would greatly appreciate any assistance they can provide

I am also experiencing the same problem on macOS Sequoia 15.1 Beta 2 but on a MacBook Pro M3 Pro. The standalone version of the game works but the Steam version will not launch. Could you please show me in which log file you found that error so I can confirm I am getting the exact same error? This issue is probably specific to the latest Beta 2 update for macOS..

I am seeing the same behavior as described in
616095, so the factorio-current.log and factorio-previous.log are not even being generated.

That is the newest version of factorio as of 10/23/2024. I have been playing it for years with different Macs, no problem. At first I thought it was some Steam bug, but I downloaded the game and still crashes at startup, so it must be the version, right?
I would really like to continue playing it, more so as the Space version came out!

The newest version is 2.0.9, the log you included is from 2.0.8. Please get the newest version here:
https://factorio.com/download . Then ensure steam is not running in the background and start Factorio. If it still crashes you can try to start it with an empty application directory

Oh, and I forgot to ask: is there any repository where I can download the previous version? I am not all that interested in a technical solution as to keep on playing the good old Factorio and I'm quite happy to do it as have been doing it - with the previous version

You can download the previous major version, 1.1.110 here:
https://factorio.com/download/archive/1.1.110
We really hope we can get the mac issues sorted out soon!

Sorry, I didn't get your message prior to my 2nd post. Thank you!
I did as you said, newest version, no Steam in the background... in any case, it crashes all the same. Here is the log:

We made some progress on these Mac issues and might have fixes out next week. We’ve introduced incompatibilities with older MacOS versions in our build process. If possible you could upgrade to a newer MacOS release already, to see if it fixes these issues for you.

I'm on Gog Galaxy 2.0.77, installed Factorio 2.0.12 (when I click "view patchnotes" it says it is version 1.1.68 though), Mac OS Sequoia 15.1 (24B83). I just installed Factorio through the Gog client and when I try to open it I get "Factorio is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash. This file was downloaded on an unknown date". Same error when opening directly from Finder. The Gog "Verify/Repair" option does not help.
