I want to know how to rename items SAFELY. For instance, i would like to rename the prototypes for Rocket Fuel to Basic Rocket Fuel, since in my mod, It won't be used for any rockets DIRECTLY. I can handle everything other than this, but i want compattibility with other mods which do anything with Rocket Fuel (which will then become Basic Rocket Fuel) without any hassle on their end.

It's simple. You just don't.

But you can change the display name. Look up locale files and make a new translation for rocket fuel.
