is music in the game played due to any sort of trigger, i only ask due to the naming of the tracks it feels like they are linked to points of progress within the game

There are no triggers, tracks are simply randomized.

The music is randomised as I made 300+ custom songs to play as well. Sometimes I hear the same one withing a period of an hour, other times I hear one that has not played for over 200 hours.
