Hi, I recently got the game and was wanting to play it with my friend. I've played for a while now on singleplayer and it's been perfectly fine. However, when I play multiplayer with him, there is a lot of lag but only in certain circumstances. For example, when I hit spacebar, I notice that I will rubberband, and the same happens when I let go of spacebar. This only happens to the player who isn't hosting the server.

Similarly, when either of us attempt to drive a vehicle, the input lag is unbearable, often being up to an entire second or two before registering. This seems to be a semi-common issue from what I could tell by googling it but I can't figure out how to resolve this. I've tried connecting to my friend using hamachi and then by renting a server online but neither has solved the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forums. That is just part of how multiplayer works in Factorio. The delay is related to how long it takes your two computers to talk to each other over the internet. The game tries to hide the delay as best it can but there are some things it can't hide: such as shooting and driving vehicles.
