Hello

I'm trying a no belt challenge and i want to create a place to melt my metals. The designed i wanted to use is
1) One rail entry for all metal and another for coal (i'm in the early stages).
2) there is multiple line with with furnace and and a train station with a wired train signal.
3) there is an output for trains
4) train that come across a line of furnace aren't linked to the train station. I want them to
4.1) choose an empty line => done
4.2) stop at the train station => done
4.3) be open for transiting metal in and out of the furnace => undone; My train stop but hand inserter can't take item from them

Any ideas on how to make my train able to be unloaded/loaded ?

Inserter cannot interact with an automatic train unless it is stopped at a train stop.

I found how to do it basically :

1) I name all of my station stop who are in a furnace line "furnace".
2) i set all station limit to 1
3) I have a place where train can stop while and not disturb other trains


But I wonder if this design could not function in the long run, any ideas ?

this is a good one !

people call it a stacker, you can use a train stop there like the exit gate with a limit of 1, or several for each individual trains, to manage the scaling number.

You can name your stations "parking" "furnace iron" "furnace copper" "iron load" "copper load".

Keep in mind that if you share the "parking" area with only 1 exit gate, it can happen that a copper train block an iron train. It is then possible to do different waiting area for train with different ressources. "parking iron" "parking copper".

I did try this system, and when all limit is set good, the train don't leave the waiting station if there is no places.
My main problem was that I was way too chaotic at the start since without belt or handcrafing, early game is really slow ^^
