Mod dissociated from save, sync fails to re-add it.

I've been playing a game with a specific mod for 25+ hours. On January 27th, I loaded it up again and played for a few hours before realizing the mod wasn't on. In the save menu, the mod is no longer associated with the save. If I attempt to sync mods with the save, nothing happens. I'm relatively new to the game, but it is my understanding that this is the preferred way to play a game with a specific mod. I cannot figure out another way to get this mod active in this save file.

If the mod is unloaded, I am unable to remove the mod from a save file with the mod. The exact same silent failure happens.

The mod appears to still work. I am able to make a new game with the mod. I have also tested this with multiple mods: I've attempted to remove a second mod from a game created with it, and I've attempted to add a second mod to my original game. The exact same issues occur.

The game and both tested mods are up to date. I've verified my files with steam and found no issues; the issue persists. I also see nothing in the factorio log, or in event viewer.

"Sync mods with save" is just a convenient way to get the same set of mods again. There are plenty of times you need to load a save with a manually adjusted mod set. When intentionally adding or removing mods from a save, or if mod updates change dependencies, mod sync will complain but you should bypass it.

When the sync mods page comes up, you can manually select which mods to actually enable/disable, and you can deselect "load save after restart". That last option means you can use sync to get most of your mod set, then inspect/fix it manually in the mod manager before actually loading the save.

If you do this (sync everything, then manually enable the mod in question, and then load while ignoring the sync prompt), the mod should activate in your save like it was newly installed. You will still lose any items, entities, or data that was related to the mod before it was accidentally uninstalled from the save.
