How resource intensive is creating a railway system?

Just wondering. Also, is it worth creating a railway system for a resource patch that's roughly a radar's base range away from your base?

Not very. Tracks are cheap, and even the trains are not expensive.

I wouldn't start a rail system for a resource patch that close, but once you've got rail connections up and going for other reasons, it's probably easier to use them for everything rather treating a nearby patch as a special case.

Alright. I need to set up a railway for the oil that's really far from my base, so it's probably a good idea to set up an outpost for the iron first (as I'm running dangerously low on it, and will need to get iron creation running again before I set up any other outposts. After that, I'll finally get oil deliveries up. Thanks.
