-You can sumbit a map or an scenario, and the scenario doesnt need to have a map, it can be 100% code, also you shouldnt use mods in your map.
-The contest wont have a jury, everybody will vote for the map he/she likes the most.
-To sumbit the maps, you should post them in the comments, but dont post them before the contest starts, or other players will be able to copy stuff!
-The contest sumbitting time will start in two weeks from this sunday (so the 21st of july), and there will only be three days to sumbit the map.
-The voting time will last a week.
-You can sumbit more than one map.
-There is no price (or maybe yes, if somebody wants to give a price to the winner, like a title in the forums or something

)

I would vote for yes if you change "map" into "scenario"
Maybe, just maybe, if many people contribute lets say 5+ the devs are willing to add the winners-scenario to the vanilla game.
( or a free scenario pack for the winner?

)

Why you want me to change it from map to scenario?
An scenario is 100% coding, you dont edit the terrain, I think that less people will do an scenario, since is harder to think, and water and forests are hatefull, if the player spawns near water/forest and you want to make structures, then it would be quite hard.
I think that the best choise is let the creator chooses between map or scenario.
Also another thing is, should we let people use custom mods designed for the scenario?
Because im sure some people will want to add a house or something

I think that letting people add custom entities can be good.

Ok then let me clarify this.
For me a map, yeah it is just a map

It works similar to a normal game, but with handmade terrain (and prebuilt structures).
A scenario includes a predefined map + a scenario-script ( that just works in this specific scenario-enviroment, so no other games are affected)
And finally a mod which means coding + new entities/items and have an effect on all games (if turned on of course).
But yeah I changed my opinion, it might be the best idea to let the creator decide. I guess that will result in a higher feedback.

I think that with the scenarios the map is created by the factorio code, and you run a script, a map is terrain + scrip(optional), and a mod prototypes+script.
I think that for this content it should be map (with script), map+mod (with script) or just script (scenario, or scenario+mod.

For me the map is also just a static terrain + entities. While scenario is the map + script (behavior). However it is a matter of definition. In this sense the scenarios in scenario-pack are scenarios:) Anyway I think there is a lot of room for interesting creations for maps and scenarios (map + script).

The scenarios can be put into a mod and distributed in such a way. The scenario-pack is actually a mod. On the other hand if someone some good scenario (or map

) then we can for sure talk about being this part of the Factorio distribution itself.

Well the scenario im preparing is more like the freeplay or the sandbox, all the building is made by the code, and the map is generated randomly.

So because you already started ( and me too

).
Do we want to define a deadline? IMO something between 2-4 weeks sounds good to me

And in the end you will get -1 vote for each function or something similar you used that is not mentioned in the wiki

LOL, I think anything goes as long as it is done using a public version of factorio xD
If I had an idea for what to do I'd probably join myself, but I'm not really a creative person so I've no idea where to start lol (I have had a nagging idea in the back of my head though, ever since I first played the demo, to change all of the terrain images to make it look like a hell biome...the creepers would work as nice low level demons lol)
edit: wow, four posts were made while I wrote this, that or I simply didn't notice that there were two pages...probably the latter

Aw I am so exited

I can not wait to upload my result.
So lets say the contest ends on sunday in 2 weeks, 10p.m. official factorio-time ( GMT+1)? After that 1 week voting?

2 weeks to make the map, and a week to vote, so it ends the 28th (with results) and the time you have to sumbit the map ends the 24th
