How is this the best start ever? I don't see any iron or coal. You'd want those nearby to be considered the best start.

One more and I will make an own subboard for that.

Random map generator stuck me on an island with no aliens or means off the island making victory impossible due to a inability to obtain alien artifacts in which to distill into alien science packs.
I've attached my save file to assist in debugging this issue.

I...I don't even know this could even happen when making a new world.

I dunno, but I like it. That could be a useful map for someone who doesn't feel like exploring much and wants to worry more about getting resources than fighting off biters or finding those resources

Map exchange string is more easily usable when copied in text than on a screenshot

I believe the game generates land around the player the same as it generates lakes, okay it doesn't do this perfectly, but quite often it's very obvious a blob of land has been created sticking out of a coast, or in a lake, or in the middle of the ocean. Since it clearly does generate land the real mystery is why it doesn't generate enough land to make sure a player's not on a 1x1 island.

Sat down to play a fresh game of factorio, aaaand this was my spawn point.

I set water to Very Big, terrain segmentation to Very Low, and Starting Area to zero. I was trying to make an island start.

In a way, I suppose, I succeeded.
