You can mouse over any pipe segment, and in the details it will show the length of the fluid system segment end to end. Pumps count as an end point for a segment, so it's pretty easy to look and see if you are going to need a pump.

There does have to be some flow for it to count, I think. I ran into that issue on Aquillo.
