I have one issue with your tests, the turns that you put to compare to the straight track is more comparing unnecessary turns versus a straight belt, which will always lose. You should either make the straight track longer to account for the extra belt length you're adding to do the turns. I would be interested in your tests if the turns were actually "necessary". By this I mean that your belt never moves father away from your destination, alternating left & right turns.

Looks like your splitting from 1 lane onto 3 lanes unevenly.
You're getting 50% material on top and 25% on each of the two bottom lanes.
You're results are likely skewed because of this.
