It's not really the same as America.

First, 'native' American's aren't truly native, they weren't a species of human that evolved in America like the creatures on the world that we crashed on. The 'native' Americans just came to this land mass much earlier then the Europeans, migrating from Asia during an ice age some 20,000 years ago.

Second, Europeans didn't wipe out Indians, at least not directly. Historians estimate that America had between 20 and 100 million Indians when Columbus arrived. Disease wiped out 90% of the native population in the following few decades. So while the disease was likely indirectly brought over by Europeans, it wasn't a purposeful attack nor is it the massacre that history books and movies taught us. Also, Vikings supposedly had a colony on America before Columbus. They arrived around 1005AD, it had a few hundred settlers but only lasted 2 years before Indians drove them off.

1) still they're classified as 'native' despite every human being truly native from Africa.
2) true, but in-game you don't wipe out the entire alien population you decrease it to the point where it's no longer a problem, therefor I did not claim that Aliens we're wiped out, just decreased to reduce inconvenience.
anyway seriousness aside, you know that I meant it as a joke, so don't take it seriously.

Maybe that's why we're the ones who develop the Alien Technology and Alien Science Packs. See? It all makes sense.

Sort of. Except the Europeans didn't have the option of reloading an autosave when they lost, and 95% of the biters weren't killed by a plague before I landed there (I think...).

I would have to say that the game is more like the movie Avatar.
Wonder if that's where the dev's got inspiration for it.

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky...

Actually, both are aliens (biter & player).
Alien only means something like "not us"

But in common Mouth it means not from this Planet, ugly and lays Eggs in your Body.

so true...

And Biters/Spiter are not Aliens, they are "Natives" wich means in common Mouth: Primitiv, might be friendly, kill it, take its Women and Land, make Money of it.

Natives of planet refered to as 'aliens'

I know this is gonna, anger people / blow minds / sound pedantic. But technically the Bitters and Spitters in game and the artifacts they drop are natives of this planet.

The player character is the alien.

Anyway, just a thought.

I know this is gonna, anger people / blow minds / sound pedantic. But technically there is already another topic on that subject. So I merged the latter to the former. Because I can :)

Of course it is. You could argue that you're not much of a protagonist, but that you're the villain. Unless you're American.

Yes, WE ARE!! I think.

We pollute their planet just because we want to go home.
Our lives are not in danger. We just want to go home.

So i think we are the bad buys. However, It's a game. :D

possible names for "the enemy"

so, i've noticed that the enemies in factorio, despite having their own separate names, don't have an overall name, like with most things irl, instead being referred to as "enemies" in the in-game text. i would like to start a discussion about ideas for this, and start by inputting my suggestion of "GoKiMs" (pronouned gah-kims) it's the first letters of godless killing machines.

Critters, or maybe bugs.
