It is apparently considered to be a form of advertising. This is the classic “Shareware” scheme - as used by id Software. Many copies of Doom and Quake were burned to Floppy or CD and passed-around schools and offices in the 90s.

Good Luck!
Careful. Klonan said : "in your own home". This should not be confused with sharing with everybody on a school yard. The latter is a recipe to spread a single copy to thousands (since whoever gets it will continue to share it further). I assume Klonan is talking about sharing a single copy only for playing with a family members or friends in his home, without those friends taking that copy to their homes as a legaly owned copy to play it there and continue to share it on.

Brother this game has no drm, the whole schoolyard has been downloading for 10 years at this point.
It has sales from people wanting to buy it + people wanting mod portal comfort, not from forum sheriffs enforcing some arbitrary imaginary border to share.
If you read the ToS, everything is plain and clear. Distribution is generally not permitted. What is this "careful" even about?

Some people have higher moral standards than you, and may simply choose not to pirate the game and won't play it pirated. I am one of them, I bought the game instead of downloading pirated gog copy.
Some people will consider buying a second copy, to play comfortably in multiplier with family etc, hence this thread.

Funny projections that you have, as you see I bought it at a point where it was in a crowdfunding state ;). At this point you certainly had a train or a lab named after myself ingame. I'd buy again nowadays without hesitation, still best-in-class and genre-defining. No, in fact, it was best in class then, but nowadays, it is above and beyond all humble expectations I had then. Literally no competition nowadays whatsoever, re polish & scale. So I guess I would buy it more eagerly nowadays, than I did back then.

Also, you are quite literally quoting what I said - one buys it because you find it the right thing to do (as we both agree upon) or because of comfort.

What I am saying is, I see no point in trying to justify piracy - one can either pirate, and shut up about it, or not pirate, and also shut up about it :D

That's great 😃 I wish I knew this game when it was in preorder state, I would buy it then. Or maybe I don't - I play it now, in perfect, finished state.
Sorry for assuming you are OK to pirating, that's how I read your post.
I am not OK to pirating, I did that when I was a kid, but nowadays I just buy the game, developer who is worth it will always get my money.

Who is enforcing anything? I was just saying to be careful with the interpretation of Klonans words and possibly spreading false rumours. Since my native language isn't English my choice of word can sometimes be odd.

You are correct with the schoolyard, but adults usually don't pirate anymore. But they might if someone told them the developer thought it okay to use their software like shareware

To be honest, I start playing many games using pirated versions. If I like a game, I buy it—not just to own a license, but to support the developers! Besides, how many games do you know that aren't just supported for so many years, but actually keep evolving? I bought the DLC straight away without checking out a pirated version first, because I was absolutely sure I’d love it!I’ve already put 3,000 hours into the game, 1,000 of which were in the DLC. Now my interest has shifted to modding, so I’ll be playing with my own mods from now on, and maybe I'll even share them. All in all, the base game is definitely worth every penny, and the DLC is worth it too! If Factorio 3.0 ever comes out, I’d gladly pay for that update. It’s just a shame that development on the project will be winding down soon.

I, honestly, think that the price of the base game is barely enough. 35$ is a very low price for the mods support, replayability, thousands of free servers and a game that you can download and launch almost anywhere you want.

I couldn't agree more. For what you get $35, is extremely low. Heck, I've spent a few thousand $$ just on hardware to play the game.

Factorio has one of the lowest cost-per-hours of all the games I have ever played in my entire life.

I personally think Space Age being the same price as the base game can initially feel a bit rough, given that it's quite a large upfront cost to get both for an indie game, so I can see why people would be hesitant, but it's definitely worth the money in terms of actual playtime.

eugenekay wrote: Fri May 15, 2026 1:59 am playing multiplayer on same account is already possible “Offline” using the Installer directly from Factorio.com.
Seeing how people act on the internet nowadays, some may not be able to parse it like this. So let me be more verbose:

  • If you bought factorio on steam or anywhere else you can download a standalone exe from Wube's website. (may need to connect the two accounts first)
  • You can use that installer to install it on different computers.
  • You can use these two installations to play together (locally).

This may not be very obvious if you are used to steam-like-DRMS and current app stores.
So given you have two computers you can play together, even the DLC, without any additional cost.
Peace and Love

**narrator: The price of the game, was, in fact, not too high.**

While you are stating an option, which is subjective,I have to challenge how a game with hundreds of hours of play to complete is overpriced at $70.00.

If there is a game which exceeds AAA, this is it. You will play it, love it, hate it, and then love it more. And every year or two you will come back and replay it. And then play the mods. And if you like the game as you say you do, then you will clock over a thousand hours, as many, many have done.

FIFA 26 is $90.00, Maden VIP pass is $150.00 for this season, Timberborn (which I love) is $35.00, the same cost as the Space Age expansion. I just don't see how you can come to the conclusion that this game is overpriced.

Unless this is rage-bait, content farming by the mods because no one is engaging in the forums! Really Wube!
