Nice that we actually agree then, how then about a similar requirement for fuel to be burned in space boilers than what I suggested in the other thread ?
[...] having a minimum value to be accepted [in boiler] :
- Area (on belt) : energy content of a single item
- Volume (in inventory) : energy content of a single stack of items
- Mass (in rocket) : energy content of the cargo that a single rocket can carry
- Vehicle acceleration
- Vehicle top speed
(or maybe it could even be a combination of several minimum requirements above ?)
(- If some fuels are still too problematic to balance for this, even if restricted to their higher quality versions : Item type)
(These requirements could be the same as my suggestion for rocket part for simplicity, or different — for balance.)

I think only one requirement would be enough, wether the fuel can burn in a 0 hPa environment. And I think it would also be fine if only rocket fuel meets that requirement, to start with atleast.

The use of oxidizer as a requirement be it for in addition to fuels which should burn in space irl, or others as well makes sense and to be honest is more in the spirit of combining systems, increasing ways to automate, and expand, but it does go against the difficulty that going out into deep space holds..... wait are we going to deep space or is there something else which we are collecting? And if so why can't we automate better?

Plz can we look into the possibility of implementing our idea? We steampunkz want 2 go 2 space too :/

How about a separate boiler-like entity that takes item fuel, water,
and thruster oxidizer ?
How about using the same boiler entity, but using oxidizer as a fluid input? After all, rocket fuel (H2?) + oxidizer (O2?) = H2O. Boom! Q.E.D.
I don't really care about using steam personally, but I think actually that's a thing IRL: a portion of the exhaust gases can be used to spin a turbine, which then drives a generator. In Factorio, it could be done by just using a "boiler" entity, or by connecting an optional output pipe to the back of the thrusters.

surprised there is no mod for this

If you can tell me how to mod it so that only specific fuels can burn or be inserted in space then let me know, I havent been able to find a way.

I have used gas boiler and electric boiler, is there a reason it would be different to add a "space-boiler" that only work with rocket fuel for your needs ?

No i want it to be the same entity, or atleast built from the same item to avoid feature creep. Also I think there is category 'burnable fuel' that makes no distinction between for example coal and rocket fuel. So would then have to create new category or something.

I understand now why no-one made a mod for this.
