[Koub] Merged into an older thread with the same suggestion. And indeed, there are many other threads with variations about how to change the pipe autoconnect.

I dont get the whole idea about problems with space. Personally, i always play with certain mods installed, like the waterfill mod. This enables me to disable water all over the place, meaning I can do as I please. Which also means, I can slap dont factories of stupid proportions. Like my liquification plants. they are 22 refineries in 8 rows, with an equally stupid amount of chem factories, to make petrolium. Even though my screenshot is from K2, the piping system is still allowing me to revert them to basegame pipes (range is bigger with K2 pipes), because I had the brains to build it in a vanilla game (which was a 1 of a kind idea, since everything else I made, is not exactly compatible with vanilla). I even made all belts in red/blue, so I can use them in a vanilla game
Ofcourse, just because i cant see the reasoning in not using underground pipes, doesnt mean others arent able to..

If you really need it, i made a mod for this problem. It does, however, require a second mod to add pipes.

[2.0] Connect pipes only via drag

Hey,
it would be AWESOME if pipes dont automaticly connect to anything, they would need to be connected via dragging them together.
So you hold a pipe in your hand and when you start dragging it, it would then connect.
If you then drag a pipe over two pipes that are next to each other, they would connect.
With this, we would have a nice pipelines like in reallife, with the option to connect them easily.
Greetz,
Luzifer

+1 love the idea of this, as I'd also allow running pipes next to and past each other with out issues

it would be AWESOME if pipes dont automaticly connect to anything, they would need to be connected via dragging them together.
While probably not appropriate for the base game (it's a bit unintuitive for new players) i could see this becoming an interesting mod. Although, it would probably need a shortcut tool to join pipes instead of just dragging them, and i don't know how you would handle dragging a line of pipes.
I'd be interested in looking into is as a mod, if you don't mind me taking the idea. I already have code from a very similar mod that I can probably adapt.

Its free to tag, but it should be in base game, because its pretty simple to teach.
