One chest per lane unloads slower than the other two, but otherwise I think this design is good.

This is interesting and I like your creativity but since you can get a packed blue belt from 4 inserters per side why spend all this space if you already have blue belt?

4 red belts is 106.64 items per second
vs
2 blue belts at 80 items per second and TONS easier to manage.

Here is an example with 4 cars.

Why do we climb the mountain?

Because it is there.

Someone posted a design to reddit that made four not-packed red belts, and they suggested that they couldn't figure out how to get four packed red belts in the same space. I accepted that challenge.

Two packed blue belts is definitely a lot easier to design, and fits in smaller spaces, for minor loss of throughput.

Minor addendum: In addition to the 25% loss in belt output, your 8 inserters/chests have a 33% loss in train car unload speed over my 12.

Do you mind if I ask what the circuit conditions in your screenshot are? That looks like a perfectly balanced unloader, so I am unsure why it would need any circuits.

Not my image. I assume it's a load balancer (which seems odd for unloading).

I am still coming to terms with the new longer underground belts. But here's a new way to use blues for unloading:

Are those three blue belts compressed/saturated? I didn't think twelve stack inserters could keep up.

Also, your bottom chests are going to all empty faster than your tops, I think.

They are not compressed but I care more about throughput. I usually put a single balancer downstream and don't really care about chests unloading evenly. Was good enough for a 200k plate per min base.

You can get 3 compressed blues out using that idea you just need to do two things:
1. Set the stack size override to 8 on all 12 inserter placing on belts.
2. SLOW the inserters placing on the entrance to the UG belts by 1 tick

Image

That is a simple 48(47? forget offhand) tick clock with the insteres wired up to be enabled on 'A' = 1. This slows them just enough that the gap between sets of items are just big enough for the opposite stack inserter to fill in the gap.

Does this work in all four orientations?
