Train Ghosts when destroyed

Trains should drop ghosts when destroyed. Having to rebuild and reapply train schedules is incredibly annoying to do when the biters get a little too close and often resulting in not knowing which train is lost.

I feel that would have the problem of where the ghost should go.

It can't just attach a ghost to a moving train, that makes the train switch to manual and would immediately disconnect anyway if its already in motion.

And it's unlikely every part is going to be destroyed instantaneously. It could be at either end or in the middle so now you've got two trains, which one gets the ghost? And if the rest of the train keeps moving the ghost will just stay stuck on a random piece of track, which seems way more of an issue.

Even if you only do it for the locomotive, you can have multiple on a single train so that all still applies.

It's actually not a bad suggestion.

Maybe when the train gets destroyed, a ghost is created. But when you click it, you can claim it / turn it into a blueprint.
That blueprint would contain the full train, sitting on a straight piece of track.

This way you do not lose custom slots in your wagons.

Or trains and schedules should be separate.
I think currently a schedule disappears when the last train with it is removed.
Instead a schedule could exists independently of a train and when the train is destroyed you just select the old schedule.

I believe trains already have ghosts when only partially destroyed. It is only when the entire train is completely destroyed that the train route disappears altogether. In that case, just put the whole train ghost wherever the train was when the last locomotive was destroyed.
