So I just opted into the 13.0 beta on Steam and before doing so I had added a mod folder and some mods that I re-added using the in-game mod manager. However, it seems like Factorio still thought the previous mods were still installed, although updating it seemed to have removed the mods folder I added. Regardless I decided to "confirm" the mods I wanted, leading to the restart, in hopes it would just sort itself out. Now the game won't start due to the "duplicate mods" error, and un/reinstalling the game hasn't helped. Plus I can't find any sort of mods folder related to Factorio. I've also tried moving the game file itself to the trash (I'm on a Mac) but that hasn't helped either.

Hoping there's something else I can do that I haven't think of, because as of now I just simply can't play the game

Have you looked at ~/Library/Application Support/factorio ?

Wow I'm a bit ashamed that I never saw that folder in all my searching. Thanks, that seems to have fixed it. I had a distinct feeling I was missing something crucial

Hi guys!!!! I have the same problem. I was trying to install Bob´s mods and now im getting the "Duplicate mod bobassembly" quote. The game crashes aferwards so now im not able o play it. Please help me thank you. Im on PC.

Go to the mods folder and delete one of the duplicates, location of the mods folder:
%appdata%\Factorio\mods (open the run dialog with Win+R and put that in)
(usually C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\mods)
