Use of coloured signal icons in circuit setups

Hi
I am playing unmodded SA experimental 2.1.7 and was wondering if the red and green colored signal icons (that are in the same tab as number and equations) could be used to represent the red or green circuit output?
I've attached an example for the input of a splitter where it would be easier if the red and green wires could be attached directly to the splitter, using the red and green signal icons to represent the inputs, rather than using a combinator as an additional step (as per screenshot attached).
I haven't come across a use for the red and green signal icons elsewhere so thought it might be handy.
