Aliens swarms fighting eachother

Thought I'd be cool to instead of just fighting one enemy to have different types of enemies fighting each other besides the player.
For example : You'd have the flying type of enemies (like hornets or bees) that are mostly harmless and depend on plants as a food source, if the player removes their food source they become aggressive. Then you have the spider-like or mantis-like enemies hunting the others so to stop overpopulation.
The players objective besides just killing the aliens and managing the pollution is to keep a balance and NOT just killing all of the aliens. If all of the plants get eaten by the grasshoppers all of the bees will become more aggressive and (eventually) die out because of the lack of food thus increasing the grasshopper population. On the other hand if all the grasshoppers and bees get eaten, the spooky spiders start crawling over your walls and attack you instead. The idea is to create a simple ecosystem that the player has to take care of or else the difficulty increases. I think that this would add another interesting aspect to the game and wouldn't really demand a lot of resources from the development side of things.
