For those of you who don't watch Benthem's Let's plays...
His train one has a lake... and it's....
A bit big...
i don't know if you can see it, but the square in the upper right of the map... that's a powered radar...
EDIT: i just noticed how horrid that image was, but as of now, i can't get a better image off of the video...
here is a link to the series where he "tries" to go around his "lake", the last vid (War for the lake EP5 i believe) is the one with the full map

I love his series too, But man that is a gigantic lake! Would be nice if he can get a train going round the lake
.
Even if its only for fun

That reminds me to something...
. o O ( suggest a map generator based on Julia sets? Or Mandelbrot sets? to create such big structures... )

I know that feel. This one took 4 hours to circumnavigate.

heh, now THAT is a lake... this needs to be a thing, "how big of a lake can you generate and survive circumnavigation

Should've been more specific.
I was talking about the entirety of the map, with the undiscovered parts being the outline.

Yup, I see the seahorse. Actually a better find than my cat.

Thanks for the pointer; that was great fun to watch!
I got curious about one of the odder maps I've played on, but I think the perimeter is a bit too long for me:

This is the secret to getting really big lakes: very low terrain segmentation, very large water. Add a little bit of trial and error (easier to do in the map editor) and there you go.

Yep. The trial and error is just because you might end up in the desert, or a forest, or in the middle of one of the oceans; they're all much larger than normal, so your world could have huge lakes like this but you'd never know because you're so far away.

I found an awesome seed, but I can't seem to pull the seed or map exchange string from it because I generated it in the editor. Any clues? Here is the scenario save file:

Ships and planes anyone?
I hope after MP is done, we'll see some fun added.

If you start a game from the scenario and save it, the seed should be accessible

I did exactly that, and failed. "Map exchange string can only be generated from freeplay maps" shows up when I mouse over the greyed out "Map Exchange String." Since a dev just told me I can do it, and I can't, it must be a bug.

Feel free to move this post over to the bug board if you want.

... or the dev was wrong :-) The message you are getting is actually a feature, not a bug -- I just forgot about it. The idea is that once the map goes through the map editor, there is no guarantee that it corresponds to the exchange string, so we just chose to disable that option...
This means that I don't know about any (simple) way to get the exchange string. :-)
