I've set up a refueling stop right before the exit of my main base, where trains stop for ~5 seconds and get loaded up with solid fuel. I've repurposed this stop to add wall, gate, laser turret (still unfinished), repair pack and construction robot loading arms; this way all of my trains get loaded up with spares.
So far, I've switched to unload to chests, and limited via inserter. 10 robots is pretty much enough, since I don't get attacked that much anyway (it's my second game still, with several dozens of hours in it... I should restart to something with more biters and less resources, but I'd hate to abandon all I've built so far.
