Reason why I like Factorio belts

This is the main reason why I like Factorio belts as they are now: challenge getting everything as small as possible.
Intersection
This is the intersection I've designed for my new storage system. Main purpose is to have 2 belts IN and 2 belts OUT for each basic raw resource (iron, copper, coal, stone) or 16 belts in total.

This intersection is where all 8 OUT belts are merging into main belt highway, while 8 IN belts continue further unobstructed. Each belt is split into slower belts in order to make most efficient turn, and then merged back into faster belt. As a result each belt can send resources at maximum capacity possible in vanilla game.
Colour coded version
This is colour coded version for help understanding the flow.

Thanks. I just noticed there has been growing sentiment recently of upgrading current belt system in order to avoid large complex structures. Just wanted to show that they can be nice looking too. Certainly this design is rather complex, but that is due to very limited space I allowed for such intersection.

looks really nice! but what are you planning to do with a 16 belt highway? :D

1... 2... 4... 8... 16... perhaps the factorio version of 2048?

Its really only 8 belt two-way highway. Or 2 belt two way lines for each of 4 raw resources. It will carry ores, coal, and rocks from train stations to storage and back again.

My Processed highway will be much bigger: 24 lines total for copper and iron alone.

Sexy. Elegant. Efficient.

.. I really have to reconsider my Factorio addiction after finding transportation belts 'sexy'.

main reason for such intersections
This is quite common in my bases...
P.S. I actually dont like this design, because it can only output/accept 2 high-speed belts of ore. Unfortunately due to Roboport area coverage and mostly cumbersome charging\queuing process any "decent" large scale facilities (5+ high-speed belts) would require ginormous amounts of space.

I will probably make secondary storage near my train terminal as a buffer later. Something close to 2 in\5 out setup.
